What about Latin or typing?  Or maybe a language like Spanish/French?  I am assuming he is doing oral and written narration with history andor literature?

Book of Mottoes?  Book of Centuries?  What about a nature journal?  Bible verse memory work?

    Just some thoughtsLaughing

I would add more reading and written narration for history, geography, and literature. I am doing module 1 and I am supplementing for dd13 who is a big reader. Also, I would consider choosing other subjects to add – current events, logic, critical thinking, economics (Maybury series is an option), picture study, composer study, poetry study, nature study, foreign language, Latin or Latin roots, handicrafts/life skills, and more.

Yes, he needs a foreign language.  He should probably be doing more writing than just copywork and Spelling Wisdom.  I’d work up towards a written narration every day and then think about teaching essay form.  As missceegee says, I’d also strongly consider some kind of logic and some more social science like economics.  If you don’t understand the Bible you are doing, you might want to ask questions or find something else.

WOW! I did miss Latan, we are doing CM Latin and love it,:) we both are struggling with the Bible doctrine note book. WE are not sure where to write what in the book Example: GOd, Holy Spirt ect… Missceegee what other books for Module 1 are you using? We are following the Cm guide that came with it? What is the book of Motto’s? I like all the ideas I will be checking them out soon. Oh, for current events do I have him make a notebook of whats going on in the world? Where do I find stuff on Logic and critical thinking? How much should he narrate being this is our first year with CM. A page or what is appropriate? Love all the help. Thanks!:)

Logic – for an intro, we’re using Fallacy Detective and The Thinking Toolbox.  The chapters are a short read and then there are questions after for helping you to pick out the false thinking.  I like it’s simplicity and straight-forward approach which we can then apply to every-day things we see – advertising, politics, etc.

Book of Centuries aka Commonplace book is like footwork for older kids, teens, adults. See here – http://www.charlottemasonhelp.com/2009/07/commonplace-book-or-copywork-for-older.html?m=1

Current events – read daily news from preferred sources. Dd13 reads Student News Daily (incl Wednesday bias article), magazines, etc. on Fridays, she writes a narration about the most important news event of the week from her perspective.

I do like the logic books mentioned as a start.

More later re our extra history books.

Young adults need to become familiar with money management (budgeting, saving goals, business ideas). And this would be the time to specialize in a hobby or activity that is especially enjoyable. For example, I have two boys interested in photography, and my oldest daughter is all about animal husbandry, herbs, and homesteading. Physical fitness and nutrition are very imiportant at this age as well.
