I am new and have not even begun, we are still weening off textbooks. I am very inspired about the whole CM education, but a the same time very scared about how to document it for a portfolio for the school district. We live in P.A. and have evaluations and portfolios every year. I know my children will learn and know more — but it won’t “look” good to have a empty portfolio and the evaluator say “What have you done this year” as he opens an empty portfolio. Yet I find this thought process is holding me back. It is very intimadating and confusing.. Keeping me from going forward.

Kristi, the reports from the SCM organizer look really good printed out – I don’t know if this is the kind of info you need for your portfolio but if you watch the videos on this site you can see more of what it does/looks like.

    Hi Kristi,

We can use a portfolio system as well in MA. When I started, I contacted the head of the local homeschool group to double-check would be expected in a portfolio for our district.

All that is required here is a page from the beginning and end of each term (quarter/semester/however you teach) in each topic in order to show progress. I type out a few of our son’s oral narrations from each book.

I hear CM portfolios are a great bit of family history that is fun for the child to go back through later.

    HTH,

Does anyone have pictures of their portfolios posted to view? Any tips or great ideas for portfolio building? TIA

We just went through our first CM portfolio review.  I have about four posts up about it on my blog if you would like to see photos and what was key for us in evaluating and documenting a CM education.  Hope it helps.

Goals as a tool for evaluation.
