Last week 2 precious 16yo girls from China arrived in our home. We are loving this time with them and today one of my daughters said that she wishes she could study Chinese. I am stumped. We’ve always focused on Latin, Spanish and ASL. But we are hoping to make this opportunity to serve a yearly thing for our family, hosting these students that spend 19 days in our city each summer.
Does anyone here study Chinese? Is it possible to learn using Rosetta Stone (I abandoned RS for Spanish a long time ago) and are there other options?
Also, one of these sweet girls expressed “peace” enveloping her during our singing singing at a gathering this morning. What a gracious opportunity and gift we’ve been given!
If you think of us when you talk with Papa, will you mention us?
Oh what a special time! We’ve hosted exchange students from all over the world including one from China. One in particular is very special. He’s from Paris and has no family to speak of there. Lives on his own. He calls me mom and this home and is coming in 34 days to stay for 6 weeks!!! He’s been home several times since going back.
I can’t advise on Chinese. We have a 7 1/2 yos that we adopted from China last year. He’s forgotten all his Chinese. I don’t know what language we’ll do with him. He was born with a cleft lip/palate and is very difficult to understand (in speech therapy now) so we’re doing well to speak English. I want my boys to learn French but I feel really pulled to have my son relearn his native language as well, if he wants to. Right now he avoids anyone he hears speaking it.
I’ll pray for your special guests. It will change your life.
