My daughter’s birthday is coming up and she is really interested in horses…..I would love some suggestions for books for her. They could be any level for me to read to her but I’d especially love suggestions for more beginner/reader type books that would encourage her reading on her own. (she will be turning 8)
I haven’t read these but I am thinking about getting them for my DD for her birthday. There are 2 levels, the easier books are the Circle C Beginnings and the next level is when the girl is older and called the Circle C Adventures. Here is a link to them: http://www.susankmarlow.com/
My girls enjoyed the “Saddle Up” series by Dave & Pat Sargent. They are short stories divided into a few chapters. Each book is about a horse with some historical significance. They encourage positive character traits and teach about horses as well. I think they’re great books to encourage independent reading for kids who love horses.
Some longer books are Black Beauty, the Black Stallion and many books by Marguerite Henry (I think that’s her first name). I would think you could find chapter book versions of the first two.
The Billy and Blaze series is my favorite for that stage of reading. For read alouds or when she advances just a bit, look for titles by Marguerite Henry.
