I’m new to this particular forum, but not homeschooling. Over a decade ago we set out on our hs journey with the intention to take things one year at a time. When our oldest reached highschool we had a great co-op where she received her formal lessons and then later was accepted into an early college program through a public school. She’ll graduate this year with a degree from that high school and an AA degree….so naturally I’m not well versed in transcripts for homeschooling highschool.
Our second child (8th grade) went to a local fundamental school this year because it is the only way in to the better public schools here in Florida and we thought we would do that for highschool, however my heart aches to bring him home. I’m discusted by the way the public school system treats young men as ignorant irresponsible fools. He literally has teachers who have preconceived notions about boys. It’s tragic and took a conference (per my request) with them for me to see why he seems defeated each day.
So…It would bring me great joy to bring him back into our homeschooling adventures but I feel very unprepared for a highschool program. After seeing what our oldest has gone through applying for colleges I have difficulty understanding how it’s possible to use a home school transcript. DS wants to attend the USCG academy to be a pilot, but I have heard stories of other military branch academies not accepting homeschool diplomas. Can anyone offer some wisdom/guidance? I’m already planning a training at a Charlotte Mason school to observe their highschool classes, but really want to know if anyone has experience with USCG or other military academies.
Thank you.
