Has anyone ever used the Homeschool in the Woods Time Travelers series as a supplement to your history studies? http://www.homeschoolinthewoods.com/HTTA/TTS/ What did you think? I doubt I would use the whole thing as written but would pick and choose among the projects to supplement what we are doing with Module 5 next year (I’m planning to cover roughly the first half of the Mod 5 time period, tweaking the book selections a bit to use what I have and spread it out over more time so we can add other things in.)

Or, any other suggestions of project idea resources for the Mod. 5 time period? (We’re overseas so I can’t just check my library for stuff like this.) More interested in true hands-on projects (cooking, crafts, etc) than cut and paste or lapbooking type of stuff. I know about the Hands and Hearts kits but they are a little more than I want to pay. Target student will be 7.

    Thanks for any ideas!

    Hi,

We have used several of the Time Traveler sets.  I think that with a 7 year old there is going to be a whole lot that you cannot do.  In my opinion, it is really for a little bit older kid.  And a huge part of the study is making the lapbook.  We chose to make ours into a book instead.  There is a lot of printing, coloring, cutting, and pasting.   I think the Time Travelers are great and I love them – just not for a 7 year old.  Others may have a different opinion.

For my younger kids I used the History Pockets from Evan Moor, but they are mostly cut, paste, color.  You might want to look at the Christian Cottage Unit studies on currclick.com.  She has lots of true hands on projects in the two studies that I have looked at.  You can download her Oceans study for free from currclick to give you an idea of what they are like.
