I have a 14 yo boy, and a 13 yo boy (also a 6yo and 2 yo boys) i’m not too worried about the 6yo at this point but big concerns with the older two. we have dappled with creation, egypt, and read one or two greek myths, and done some ww2 books but other than that no history covered they started in public school, pulled out at 9yo, and not been consistently doing anything, we’ve been trying methods , boxed curriculums etc ever since.

where do I start? they only have 3 or 4 yrs left of official home school, we are in uk so no need for american history…..what shall I do, where shall I start? I like the simpleness of the scm history guides but don’t know where to start….where ever we start, 6 yo will join in with us.. Also I’m liking the look of the “life in the word” for gr 7- 12 – how would this be scheduled out ?

    thanks

Hi Jo! I don’t know what the requirements are in the UK. Here in the U.S., most highschoolers take American History, World History, Economics and Government in highschool.

I think you could successfully use the SCM guides to accomplish this but the modern history guides do seem to focus more on American history. Ambleside Online uses Churchill’s books for high school. They might be more up your alley content wise, but they are advanced.

I think it might be a good idea to go through a full 4 year cycle since your kids haven’t done much formal history. I would start at the beginning and move through to modern for the sake of your oldest.
