Hello!  What would you suggest we use to begin our history studies?  We are looking at Story of the World and frieinds have suggested other resources.  I am curious what experienced moms here have to say.  Daugther just turned 6 and loves listening to stories.  Someone had suggested Beautiful Feet, I think it is called but have to look into that.   Thank you!

At 6 I would just stick to reading stories that you love. The Little House books are a great option for girls that age. My daughter loved Sarah Plain and Tall too. Lots of people love SOW. I have never been a huge fan but you can get audio versions which is nice for the car.

I would recommend the history guides from this site; Simply Charlotte Mason. They have books for grades 1-3 and if your child already likes listening then I think these would be great. My family loves these history guides. They always want me to do history first. They include bible readings and geography along with the books. You can always leave something out if it doesn’t work for you or replace a book with a different one. I hear of other history guides or curriculum and I look at them and think they sound really good but I always end up coming back to SCM!

My daughter  just turned 6, and for now we are doing as previously suggested and just readying good lit with a historical basis. My girl, and my 5yo son love the Little House on the Prarie books. We have the audio versions of the first 2 books and love to listen to them at quiet time and bed time. Next year when she is “officially” 1st grade and he is Kindergarten we will try SCM Module 1 Ancient History. http://simplycharlottemason.com/store/genesis-deuteronomy-ancient-egypt/  My 6yo may or may not be ready for it in the fall but we will try it and see how it goes. If it isnt a good fit yet we will wait a few monnths and try again after Christmas. 6 is very young still and there is no need to rush into it. 🙂

My daughters 6 & 7 beg for history.  We use Simple Charlotte Mason’s “Genesis through Deuteronomy & Ancient Egypt”.  It is amazing and I enjoy it as much as the girls. ~ April
