Can anyone give me feedback about these two history spines? I have an only general idea of both.
I am concerned that Streams is a bit too sanitized or Christianized (not sure of the right word here). Is it in the vein of The Light and Glory? I liked L&G, but if it were all we used, I would not consider it enough. It was too one sided.
Would Mystery of History be a good supplement to it to balance it out?
Please tell me all you know about these two spines.
What are you planning to use these spines with? If you are planning to use them alone then either Streams or MOH are considered to be used alone for historty. Though they definitely can be combinded with other things.
I have MOH and like it. but its not enough for us. There is a small page of the story and then activities that go with it, there isn’t a lot of meat to it. You could probably add it to The Light and the GLory. I really like The Story of the Ancient World and the rest of her series better. These are well done and very interesting. Next year we will have Story of as our spine and supplement with Greenleaf and MOH for Ancient.
I think MOH is okay by itself if you’re using it with younger kids, but older ones need more.
Streams is actually a high school text. It’s used as part of the MFW curriculum in elementary, but they don’t use the entire thing; they only schedule portions of it, and primarily for “advanced” students.
As far as the “focus on America Christianese” to which I think you’re referring, you’ll probably get into that in volume 2 of Streams… but volume 1 for ancient history would be fine.
I’m looking towards a 6th grade year. I am currently leaning towards using Beautiful Feet Ancients. But I’ll add on some things from Winter Promise Ancients. I am concerned about having a meaty, balanced spine. WP uses MOH; BF uses Streams.
Thanks for your feedback, ladies. I should’ve given these details in the first post, I guess.
