History reading????

    Hi there!!
    I’ve been reading all our history aloud for both my children to hear.  It’s getting lengthy with 1st and 5th.  LOL  At what age have y’all had your children read the history alone and do written narration?  I have always enjoyed reading the books aloud (and mommy editing as needed!!!), but was curious when you started them on their own.

    We use SCM history guides (kinder, 3rd & 5th)

    I read the family and 1st-3rd books aloud to all the kids.

    My oldest reads the 5th-6th books to herself and does one written narration/week and the rest oral narration. I spent the summer prereading her books so I can keep a head of her and follow along with her narrations. So far it has worked really smoothly.
