We are using Module 3 right now and are enjoying it, but I’m starting to plan for when we finish and I will, of course, use the Module 4 handbook. Right now, I have a 3rd and a K, so there has not been much independent reading for the 3rd grader this year, but when I look ahead to Module 4, there is a long list of books for 4th grade – yippee!!! But, I don’t know if we are supposed to read all of them or just pick some. Also, are they scheduled out in the new handbook? I want to start collecting the needed books, but I need to figure this out first.
Grades 4–6 will be reading all of the extra books listed, and they are scheduled out in the new handbook, yes. Just a couple of tips as you start collecting:
King Arthur and His Knights is an audio recording by Jim Weiss.
“The Pied Piper” is poem that you can find online.
You’ll see Adam of the Road OR The Door in the Wall. Both books give a great feel for life in the Middle Ages and have somewhat similar storylines. The Door in the Wall is shorter and has more interaction with a kind group of monks. Adam of the Road contains a little more adventure and plot twists and is about twice as long.
Woohoo!!! I love it when the work is all done for me!
One last question, would my 4th grader read all of the 1st-3rd and 4th-6th books or just the 4th-6th books? It seems that I’ve seen it listed both ways on the curriculum guide in the past.
