We are transitioning from another curriculum and my 11th grade student feels that the history material and resources are not challenging enough. This is partly an attitude issue (feeling as if she already knows all the material), but I’m wondering if anyone else has tackled this issue. Thoughts?
I use the SCM as a framework for us and then choose additional titles from http://www.charlottemasonhelp.com for my oldest who is in 7th. This is my longterm plan – use the SCM modules as written, adding in more books where needed or appropriate for certain of my kids. This keeps us all on the same history cycle, which I like. All titles in grades 7-12 at CMH are appropriate in difficulty and can be used from years 7+ according to the needs of your student. You might check my previous post http://simplycharlottemason.com/scmforum/topic/missceegees-book-lists-lots-of-them for books from CMH (aka HUFI) and AO and the book list book Honey for a Child’s Heart.
Christie, is CMH in fact the same as HUFI on your book list? I never knew that! That book list is a wonder. Always meant to say thanks to you for that!
Many people feel CM style learning feels too easy when they are transitioning from another method. Great conversations about the ideas and issues surrounding the history events will provide fuel for the fire in her mind. 🙂
