I’m not sure what is going on with my comprehension on the history modules.
I’m currently still doing module 1 simutaneously with my 4th and 2nd grader. But this week I found myself confused with the “family” reading portion of the lessons. I have been reading aloud the “family,”portion of the lessons, while my boys listen and narrate. But then I was reading that Charlotte Mason was for the children reading their own lessons as much as possible.
My boys are both good readers and can handle the readings well on their own. So should I stop reading aloud and have them read on their own? If so, how would I conduct the narrations. My 4th grader is 9 almost 10 and my 2nd is 7. Does “family,” mean taking turns to read or does it just simply mean it can be read by all ages?
My second question is regarding how to coordinate the modules. I think I’ve asked this before, but do you go in order of the module #’s or by whatever you prefer. Am I on the right track by starting with Genesis through Deuteronomy and then take it from there?
As far as the guides, my understanding is to use them in order, unless you want to do a specific time period. So next year you would do year 2.
As for the readings. We do Family read alouds with me reading outloud. Once student is 4th grade (and above) they listen to family reading, but also add in their independent books that are scheduled for their grade. They might read to themselves or read outloud to me. They narrate, sometimes written and sometimes directly to me.
