Hi! I am about to start History Module 1 with my 7 and 10 year old.  I do not have alot of money to buy books, and I have searched and requested all the books I can from the library.    I can slowly get more in the next few months but husband’s job is about to have a shutdown (he will not be paid vacation, so we wont have any income coming in) and we need to save money for this time.  I can only get a couple books before the next school year starts July 1st for my kiddos.  From the book suggestions that must be purchased for this module, what you all say are essentials?

    Thanks!

For me, it would be Ancient Egypt and Her Neighbors by Lorene Lambert available here at SCM via ebook (as well as printed) and the Visits to Africa book

Ancient Egypt is the spine to be read for the the whole study and is so very well done. This book is so good it changed my mind about doing ancient history with my upcoming little ones!  Visits to Africa looks wonderful for me, and covers so much about the people, places, geography and cultures of Africa that it seems well worth the investment. I thinkt he books that go with it are probably available through the library.

I would use these 2 as the basis of my history studies and fill in with whatever worthwhile books I can find through the library.

Hi, thank you curlywhirly.  sorry it took me so long to respond…my computer was misbehaving and I ended up doing a full recovery Undecided.  Thanks for your suggestions.  I was eyeing The Stuff They Left Behind, until you suggested the Visit to Africa.   Now that I’ve read the description, I agree.  Thanks!

All my children really enjoy The Boy of the Pyramid (I have olders too). If you can afford that one, I’d highly recommend it.

I agree with Melissa, my daughter loved Boy of the Pyramid. Also think Ancient Egypt and Her Neighbors would be very valuable. As mentioned you could purchase the books or ebooks or even audiobooks.

I ended up getting Ancient Egypt and her neighbors, Visits to Africa, Boy of the Pyramids, and the guide for this module. Got the PDF downloads, which helped out tremendously. $36.80, not bad. Put my mind at ease…one checkmark on my planner :). Grateful thanks to the Shafer family/Others who made these resources available at such great prices, and gave the option for PDFs!

    Thanks, y’all for the suggestions!
