I would like to find a list of famous historical people in chronological order. It would be nice if that list also had several books listed for each person and maybe even some crafty ideas. Something like Lessons in History, maybe. I would use it, but the time period I want is out of print.
My children seem to make better connections with people rather than events and dates. We read together, put a pic on our wall time line, and sometimes make notebook pages or simple crafts. So far we have liked these books this year for history: Leif the Lucky, Pocahontas, Columbus, The Courage of Sarah Noble, Sam the Minute Man, George the Drummer Boy, Can’t You Make them Behave, King George, and right now we are beginning George Washington. They remember much more when we read books like the D’Aulaire books. I would like to keep it going, but I’m running out of ideas and there are only so many D’Aulaire books left!
    Any help would be appreciated!

I use and like All Through the Ages by Christine Miller. It is a total reference of historical books arranged chronologically and by age appropriate levels.

I also recently bought the What Really Happened series from Knowledge Quest Maps. I’ve only read one, but so far I like it. There are 3 books in the series – Ancient Times, Colonial Times & Modern Times.
