I am really struggling with where to start my kids for History, Bible, and Geography. I have a 9th, 8th, 6th and 1st grader. I thought that using the Beautiful Feet Guide for Early American History would be the best place to start. I am not so sure of that anymore. I am a little concerned that it is going to be way too much work with the guide with 4 kids at 3 age levels. My oldest two will be doing the same thing.
I really like how the Bible, History and Geography go together with the SCM method. If you were new to CM, where would you start your kids with this part of it….so that your oldest doesn’t miss out on anything?
If it were me, I would start at Module 3 and proceed with one Module/year. That said, I think I would get The Oxford Ancient History that the SCM guides recommend for Modules 1-3 and read aloud from it over the summer all the parts from Modules 1 and 2 to fill them in on Biblical and Greek times. I might also have the 6th, 8th, and 9th graders read a few selections from the first two modules over the summer. IF you school year round, I would just start at Module 3 and let your worries go. You can’t teach them everything
Having everyone together has been a real blessing in our house.
Something fun for Greek History that we have enjoyed is Dave Stotts Drive Thru History DVD’s. They might give your oldest three a fun introduction.
Thank you so much for the suggestions! I greatly appreciate it. I am hoping we can get some of the reading selection from our library. I think your idea sounds great!
We are still debating year round schooling. My DH is in Turkey and just mentioned it the other day. We are going to be doing some schooling this summer while he is away. I think that year round school might work best for us. I just would like to start Fall, on the right foot.
I think we can borrow the Drive thru History DVD’s from our library too!
Blessings,
Jenielle
