I am looking for a book ( or books) that I can use for a spine for written narrations that I can add other reading or research to for a world history program of my own design. I know I’m reinventing the wheel, but I can’t find the perfect thing for my 10th grade son. Anyone have an idea?
Susan Wise Bauer wrote some high school/adult history books pretty recently. I have not read them so I cannot recommend them, but they might be worth looking into.
Other than that, I don’t know. I have looked for the same thing but have been unsuccessful in finding that perfect book. Right now we are using Diana Waring cd’s and textbooks to tie everything together. I love then but would still like something more.
Bauer has the three new books so far, with good coverage of non-European histories. Documented history approach. I am still reading reviews on it. Looks promising in being even-handed. Definitely High school/adult material. May need previewing at some areas.
Stobaugh’s ‘World History’. Add other books to it to fill out the content. The readings are short, but questions thought-provoking. Some have complained that he adds too much of his own commentary. I’ m looking into that charge. http://cathyduffyreviews.com/History-series-Stobaugh.htm
