I want to follow SCM recommendations for high school, but I am wondering where/how to give my 9th grader the other history credits he will need. With the history, geo,Bible modules, he will only earn partial credits each year. Any insights are appreciated. We are studying module 2 this year.
Thanks Holly. I am aware of all the credits and courses which are required for graduation, I am wondering how anyone else who uses the SCM history modules has added to it in order to achieve the one credit history and literature needs each year.
If you do the Middle Ages/Ren/Ref study, Early Modern study, and Modern Times study, you will earn 3 history credits (2 world history, 1 American history). Then if you add a government course, you may have all that you need.
What if we just finished Middle Ages/Ren/Ref study in 8th grade, we are now entering Early Modern Study 9th and Modern Times 10th, then we start over again with Module 1. How could I make this work? thanks! Cara
In that case, Cara, it would depend on whether you want to count Bible history as world history (since it is the ancient history of the Israelite people). If so, you could earn a full credit for each year of the ancients studies.
Thank you, but we have started module two this year. So if I count Bible and history half credits, that can equal one world history credit for this year? My son will go through modules 2, 3, 4 and 5 by graduation if we stay this course. What credits would you award for completion of those histories ? I understand I will supplement with some government and economics to meet our state requirements.
Or should we just set aside module 2 this year and begin with module 4?(We are just in week one of the plans). My second son will have the time to go through all six modules before graduation.
He needs 1 world history, 1 American history, and 1/2 govt, 1/2 economics. And any credits towards literature or electives with the history modules are bonuses. Thanks so much for your advice!
Okay, since he needs a full American history credit you will want to do both Early Modern and Modern Times; those two will give you the 1 world history and 1 American history. With that in mind, here are what I would consider the best options.
9th – Matthew through Acts and Ancient Rome
10th – Middle Ages, Renaissance, Reformation
11th – Early Modern (add in government)
12th – Modern Times (add in economics)
OR
9th – Middle Ages, Renaissance, Reformation
10th – Early Modern
11th – Modern Times
12th – government and economics (possibly while your younger one starts with Genesis?)
