My SIL is in the same boat as you. She feels burnt out from language and is so tired of diagraming and analyzing. She opted to go for something lighter and more appealing… so she’s trying out Queen’s (even though she has heard that it is too light and easy). There are sample pages from each.
Here’s the Queen’s sample, just click Highschool on the left then PREVIEW (.pdf)
I have the Queen’s highschool book 1 and Analytical Grammar. If you have specific quesitons you want answered about either one, I’d be happy to do it. The biggest difference is the Queen’s highschool book doesn’t have grammar lessons. It is all writing. Personally, I’ve been considering using both, but my son likes Writing Strands better so we will probably do that with Analytical Grammar and Spelling Wisdom. We haven’t done a lot with diagramming so this is something we need.
Writing strands starts with K, it is a writing program. I have level 1, its a lot of advice for preparing your child for creative writing. For example, it tells you to take a walk with your child and have them list all the yellow things they see. I also have Level 3, which is more independent. He reads the book and it tells him how to write creative sentences and form paragraphs.
We are doing Queen’s Language Lessons for high school this coming year with my 10th grader, but I also purchased Easy Grammar so she can get daily grammar review as well. I think it will be a good combo
I just have this to say about Queens Language. my daughter did it the year she was in 9th. Shis a junior now and she writes stories all the time. She said it all started when she did the Q. L. They had you look at a picture and then write a story about it. She was in public school last year but is home this year and I am going to get it for her again.
