I am having a difficult time selecting a literature course for my high school daughter. I searched this forum for some suggestions, but could not find a post that shared ideas on this in particular. I am also looking at vocabulary, which needs to be included in our English credit, along with literature. Any suggestions/ideas? I did find a great writing resource through Epi Kardia, though. We are working on Matthew – Acts Ancient Rome, if that helps. Thanks in advance!
I don’t worry about a formal literature course. My high schooler reads a lot of literature that corresponds to the historical time period we are studying – both those suggested in the curriculum and selected additional works where there is especial interest, extra time, or I think it is of importance.
We are also using Lightning Literature, probably because Bookworm recommended it once upon a time. Even though my children are avid readers, I wanted something with structure and variety. LL exposes them to books that we wouldn’t necessarily choose and brings out some literary elements that they wouldn’t notice. I am opposed to the type of literary analysis which dissects every little thing and sucks all the joy out of reading, but I feel like LL is just the right amount to enhance their reading.
My oldest dd is in her senior year and her work load this year is a mix of finishing things up and things that she just wanted to do. She was dying to do Sonlight’s British Lit course so that’s her main focus of her studies. She’s absolutely loving it!
