hi- Looking for some ideas for geometry. My daughter is good at math-has finished algebry 2. We need to do geometry and I have beenworking through TT and not overly thrilled. It is so “dry”?doesn’t seem to have real life application. If i want my daughter to “just get the credit” this will do it. But if i want her to appreciate it and see how it works in real life, than NO, there has got to be something else. or am I being too picky? thought? opinions?
I used MUS for geometry. It is taught slightly differently from the common approach, which worked for me because I HATED the common approach to proofs when I was in school. It is a little less proof-heavy–they are still in there, but he has sort of “guided steps” to get there. I liked it very well and my boys tested well on the geometry questions on standardized tests. Jacob’s I’ve never used, but I’ve heard about it since I started homeschooling–it’s kind of “the gold standard.” Not sure I can help much with dryness–I don’t know I’ve ever seen a math text that was “juicy” LOL
I hope you don’t mind me giving a suggestion, as my oldes is only 6, but I was looking at the Life of Fred books recently and they sound really great. I think it would definitely be a change from the “dry” methods.
Dd16 is using Harold Jacob’s with Dr Callahan also. It definitely uses real life examples. It also has a geometry review with most chapters so the student stays current with that.
