My oldest daughter (who is 16 and a junior) needs to take Economics for high school credit. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a certain curriculum or books you have used? I was thinking about the Uncle Eric books, but I don’t know which ones to use for Economics and in which order. Also, do I need the study guides if I use those? I have also heard great things about ABeka Economics though we try to stay away from dry textbooks! 🙂
I believe Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? is the main economics book in the Uncle Eric series. We got the study guide to go with it because it had movie suggestions and other supplemental possibilities.
I recommend a study packet from http://www.homeschoolingbooks.com called the Economics in Life Kit. It has a number of Uncle Eric books, study guides and some other information and is well organized as a course. You could also count it as an Economics credit and an applied math credit.
We have also taken for this year a wonderful course from the Teaching Company on Economics and one on game theory (related to economic theory) We are very impressed with both.
I think it is very important these days to send out these young folks with some correct ideas on how economies actually work! I’m afraid such knowledge is increasingly rare.
Thank you ladies for the great insight! I have been reading the posts for awhile now, but never posted myself-what a great resource! Michelle, I loved the guide to go with the books-that helps me out a lot.
Blessings,
Danielle
