Hi, Im struggling with what to do next year for everything. My son will be in 10th and is wanting to use Notgrass American History. He also wants to go to collegg so wondering about writing and term papers ect? How does one teach writing well enough to support all the writing on the SATs? I feel like hes done Queens for the past 3 years but its not enough.
I also have 2 daughter 10 going into (4th ) and 13 going into (7) grade. Im really stuggling on what to do. I really, really want to do a full CM approach. This year we used MFW ECC and it just wasnt rich enough for me. My dd 13 struggles with spelling and writing (currently using Spelling power). We do have spelling wisdom all levels. weve graduated 2 now but for some reason this year Im just not sure. My daughter are not at all interested in Egypt so Im starting there.:) Ive read on the Depicable Education that Charlotte Mason taught American History or English History. Would you start there? We are also using Easy grammar for my dd 10. SHe has started with Spelling wisdom lightly. So, let see, they need Bible, Math( I think we will be using Strayer-Upton) Science, History, Spelling, grammar, writing. I think that covers it. Is there a program online that can correct your kids papers? lol. I just dont have a lot of spare time with twin babies and our schedule with them.
Or, you can pay someone to teach it. If that’s the only class you farm out, it’s worth it this year to tale off the current pressure. You may not need that assistance next time, with your next child, but now, with your new twins, it might serve you and your 10th grader well.
If you still want to teach it, but have another grade, there are options:
Renee Metcalf at Inspired Scholar (highly recommend). $45/mth for your 13yr old; $55/mth for your 10th:
Charlotte Mason was British, so she would have concentrated on British and European History, with American in the mix. However, IMO, you’d want to concentrate heaviest on American, then British, then World. How you do it is up to you.
You’re in a specific season, with your babies. If you can’t make your ideal CM education, don’t beat yourself up over it. Use what works for your children and, most importantly, you. If you don’t consider yourself and what you can reasonably do, you’ll all suffer.
