Our oldest child has turned twelve, and I am curious if anyone has found a good, conservative resource to help open up the discussion of puberty and s*x. I did not grow up in a christian home, and my parents left this topic entirely to the schools, so I have no example to glean from. I am not interested in books that discuss anything too graphic or detailed, just basics from a godly standpoint, for boys and girls.
For my family, we used the books from Queen Homeschool. They are called God’s Plan For Growing Up. The website is queenhomeschool.com. They are exactly what I needed. It focuses on the fact that God created you and the changes are a part of His plan. They are not graphic at all but are a nice introduction to the changes that happen in the body. They are short books and only cost $3.95 each. Check out the website and you can read more about. You can also see a sample of some of the books.
I too haev ordered a Queen Homeschool book called From Girl to Woman to address this topic and hope it will be what we are needing to open that topic gently. the sample looked decent.
Also, there are some wonderful books on purity to read with your dd, by your husband and your self and DVD’s from Grace and Truth Books and Vision Forum; as well as those to read on her own.
I too used the Queen book “From Girl to Woman” it is a wonderful resource to go over with your daughter. It covers puberty modestly it makes the discussion easy easy easy!
When I buy and review the LOper books, I’ll let ya’ll know. The company that I originally found them for sale is Conservative, Puritan strain of Presbyterianism (like the origianl Presbyterians). Meaning they are very conservative; they have many wonderful children’s book selections available.
Thank you all for sharing this info. I have been researching books to use with my DD. Based on the good recommendations, I will plan to use Queen’s book.
Rachel, I’ll look forward to your review on Loper’s books too!
