Ok, I usually do the research. checkout the best prices and look at everything. However, I am in a hurry to get him what I thought he wanted. A leapfrog Leapad 2 for the holidays. I looked up prices all week, maybe two weeks. Then, when we went to Walmart today he showed me what he wanted and it was not the leapad 2 explorer. So, It is now the v-tech with Wi-Fi. Same price I can probably get it cheaper but I would have to spend more time on this and I am not sure that is the right avenue I want to take.
I was thinking maybe a Kindle fire. I saw some for 129.00 and thought since that has Wi-Fi maybe I could get him one of those. Then, I was considering a Tablet. So, I thought of how much help you guys are. Maybe you have had some of these things and could give me ideas on something you liked or liked better. Or just if you think I shouldn’t get him something so elaborate. I would like to get him something with a camera at least. He is always trying to use mine and I had bought him one for his birthday last year. He accidently jumped/ was thrown in a pool and forgot it was in his pocket. So, it has been a while and he needs a camera also. So, if you take that into consideration I would appriciate any and all feed back you have. I am at a wits end trying to deside what to do…..
Thank you all in advance. I really appriciate it..
He is 9 yrs. Sorry, I didn’t mention it. I was called out of the house and couldn’t get back to you. 🙁 Anyway, he was looking at the V-Tech InnoTab 2 S. I was wondering if it was to young for him. It did say from 2-9 years. I think he wants it for the camera, recorder, Wi-Fi, and games. I was talking to someone yesterday while I was out and they said, “he is probably to old for it.” Her daughter was 6 and she has almost out grown hers. She plays more on her color Nook. She said that I could buy the apps for the nook and it has expanded memory and Wi-fi. It was 139.00 so I am now even more confused. Do you or someone else have any ideas??? Has anyone had a V-Tech??? Pros, Cons???
Bumping and hoping for some responses. My Mom is wanting to get the V-Tech for my girls (7and9) for Christmas but when I looked it up it does look like something that will be quickly outgrown. And, I don’t think I want them having any of the downloadable books. But what to recommend to her instead? I was thinking maybe one of the ereaders or a wii.
I had a lady suggest a nook. She said we could expand on it and we could download educational apps. It also has wifi and we can download movies, ect… Anyone else agree? disagreee? Comments?
My kids got a Leappad for Christmas last year at age 6 (boy and girl). They like them especially the camera and video (they make little movies with them), but they are outgrowing them already I feel like. They are both 7 now. They are getitng iPods from both sets of grandparents (joint gift; our parents are awesome to go in together). We have an old iPod and I am using them with them more and more for school (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the narration idea someone on here posted on a thread Misty started about tablets). The iPod has a voice memo app that it comes with that we can use for narration.
Anyway, if I was going to spend more than $100 I’d look at the Kindle Fire or an iPod personally. You can have both wifi (if you want that; I’m not really excited about it) and download any type of book you want on the iPod. The nice thing about iPod vs. Kindle is you aren’t limited to just one type of format (as with kindle) b/c you can download the kindle reading app to your Ipod (it is free) and read away on kindle books (or any other type of ebook).
I will be disabling the wifi on their iPods most likely or I may let them try using it and see how it goes. I will also be very selective about what apps they can download. Our two 7YOs are delayed in speech and there are some amazing apps I will be getting for them to use for speech practice.
I guess for me with a 9YO, I would seriously consider a tablet or an iPod vs. the other devices mentioned. My 10YO son and 12YO son are also getting the iPods from the grandparents.
BTW, the Kindle Fire was $129 on Black Friday, but now it is $179 I think.
