Big Texas howdy!  Having already checked the previous HS, science and Apologia questions, I need some help.  My dd15 is presently studying Marine Biology with Apologia.  She likes science and it is never a chore to get her to do it.  Our challenge falls in the area of math.  She is presently working on Teaching Textbooks Algebra I and is progressing well.  This is our second year of math after unsuccessful attempts with Math U See and Saxon.  Apologia has math requirements for both Chemistry and Physic and she will not be able to meet the requirements for another couple of years.  Does anyone know of a HS science level program that doesn’t require the upper level math? (Probably not)  Does anyone have advice as to what to do about science for the next couple years until she catches up?

If you are progressing well now, I don’t see a problem.  Apologia recommends being in algebra 1 the year you do biology.  (You really should think about adding in regular biology.)  You need to have finished algebra 1 to do chemistry.  That’s all.  She should be able to do that just fine if she is in algebra now.  Then she can take chemistry concurrently with geometry, think about adding in bio while she does algebra II, and still have time to get the trig basics from pre-calc done as she starts physics.

DIVE has a high school level physical science. We used it and liked it very much.

@Bookworm: she has already done Biology which is why we moved onto to Marine Bio since it didn’t have a math requirement.  She should finish Alegebra in a few months so maybe we can try Chemistry again.  Thank you.

@Carla: Funny you should mention DIVE I was looking at it last night!

Have you heard of “Chemistry 101″dvd or “Exploring The World of Chemistry”?  I have been looking for a science program for chemistry that does not depend on the math because we need to move forward in our subjects and not be held back by his math.  I looked on the answersingenesis website and when I did a search for highschool chemistry, these items popped up.  I am planning on using the two together since by themselves there would probably not be enough material.  The nice thing about Chemistry 101 is that it has a file on the disc that contains a pdf version of a highschool curriculum.   I’m disappointed to hear that MUS did not work for your family.  We love MUS because it did work so well for getting my son through his algebra.
