I think that sounds like a great plan! My 6 yo daughter loves the Little House books! We’ve read the first 2 together and now we’re taking a little break…maybe do Charlotte’s Web or something else before doing Farmer Boy and Plum Creek. My library is very limited too compared to the last one we were spoiled with, but we’re making it work!
My DS was 7 when we did 106 Days, and I remember thinking, “I’m glad I didn’t do this when he was any younger.”
It has options for young learners as well as olders but I think it is so much richer for them when they can handle that little bit more of info. It was nice for him to be able to do a bit of the writing but I know he was wishing he could read more of what we were reading. He wasn’t reading and writing as well as he has this year. So even now, I think, I may get him to tag along and do 106 days in a few years when I do it with my littles. He will be able to do the older work his sister was able to run with at the time. And if you start watching for second hand materials now, pick up this and that along the way it will not be a cost in one go. I did seek out a lot of the resources second hand and it took time. I am very happy I got the DVDs suggested, my children loved them.
Your list looks delightful and I hope you enjoy your year. Giving a CM education is such a blessing to the teacher and the student.
I am finding this to be soo much easier than I ever thought it could be.
I just wish my Sister would stop talking about “when you’re ready to send your kids to public school” & ” when you’re ready to start letting your kids socialize”. *sigh*
According to her, I’m only doomed to failure, as was she.
The difference between the 2 of us, though…
She just up and decided that she was going to Home School 2 upper Elementary and 1 HS students.
I’ve been taking my time (over 3 years actually) to decide, what method I’m going to use & what’s best for my LO’s.
As a matter of fact, it was first brought up not long after DD1 was born as the schools in our area are not very good, at all.
I’ve been agonizing over it for the entire time & now that we’re actually getting started, I’m feeling much more confident.
Thank You, to all of you, for sharing your wisdom and giving encouragement.
