To those using Internet Explorer: may I suggest trying Chrome instead? I experience far fewer–actually almost zero–“glitches” using Chrome than any other browser. And we have tried ALL available browsers. This probably won’t affect the printing issue you’re talking about, but you may see a difference in the overall running of the site. Chrome, in my opinion, is a far better browser.
I agree with Lindsey. I work at a library with many public-access computers; we have both IE and Chrome installed on all public computers, but whenever we run into a problem with a patron trying to print, or really doing just about anything, they are nearly always on IE and once we switch them to Chrome, the problem disappears. We’d love to simply remove IE but for some really bizarre reason people always holler. Sigh.
Of all the browsers he’s tried, my computer nerd husband’s LEAST favorite is IE. His opinion is that it should just go away. Lol! He also really dislikes Firefox. He prefers Chrome over Safari as well.
I’d rather not HAVE to switch to Chrome – old dog, new tricks. I’ve not had troubles with firefox and printing – the SCMO loads exceptionally fast, though I occassionally do have glitches when I finish a lesson and click to move to the next one…
My husband has “outlawed” Google products in our house — says they are in cahoots with the political group that we don’t support; so Chrome is out for us. Anyone had luck with Safari?
We recommend Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. If you must use IE then use version 10 or above. But IE will still be slower, more error prone, and less secure than the others. The nice thing about both Chrome and Firefox is that they auto update so you always have the latest security fixes and compatibility with web standards. The only exception is that if you have a really old version of Firefox (maybe below version 15) you will need to manually install a current version (mine is at version 25) to get the auto update feature.
Although switching to a browser other than IE has overall benefits, it won’t solve the issues we’re discussing here that we are fixing on our end.
I just downloaded Safari and found my way to the SCM website. When I try to login to my account something flashes briefly and I am rerouted to the login. I can’t seem to get in at all using Safari for windows.
I double checked my username and password. I can login and logout on IE without a problem. But Safari doesn’t even let me in…
@dlibby1angel, Safari for Windows was discontinued quite some time ago so you won’t want to use it. That’s why I asked which platform you were on. It’s a great choice for Mac but not for Windows. If you want to avoid Google, then Firefox is your best option.
We’ve figured out why not everyone is having the font size problem. It is all related to the notes not wrapping. We didn’t change the font size at all with the recent update, but the notes affect print size in an unexpected way. If you have longer notes that don’t wrap then your browser will try to shrink the page to make more fit. The longer the note, the smaller everything on the page shrinks.
We’re working on a fix but it will probably be through the weekend by the time we come up with a solution and fully test it to make sure it doesn’t cause other problems. Thanks for your patience as we work through this.
I’m so glad you’ve discussed the browser options. I’ve been using IE with numerous errors lately. I will switch to Firefox. Thanks! And, thank you for figuring out the fix. We will all be patient through this process.
My dh agrees with everything the other techies say about IE. He won’t even use Windows, but he hasn’t changed mine over yet (our 2 dd’s laptops are switched to Linux, as is his). We hate Google for the same reason dlibby1angel said – they are in cahoots. But I can’t find a better search engine, or at least one that is easy enough to figure out? I don’t know. They do have a great search engine, but I’d love to switch from that, too. (And he won’t do Apple products, either. LOL)
