Hi, everyone. I’m planning to begin Getting Started With Latin and am trying to figure out how to use the free audio dowload for pronunciation. I’m not very good with computers and would love any help/suggestions! Anyone used this?
We use the audio download for the classical pronunciation. We listen to the pronunciation of the new word and discuss its meaning and if we can think of any English words that derive from it. Then we take turns reading and translating the sentences, listening to the pronunciation of each one afterward.
I didn’t really express my question very well. What I mean is, I downloaded it onto my desktop, but now I don’t know how to open it to use it. Is there any way you can tell me the procedure as I’m rather computer illiterate?? 🙂
I’m sorry. I thought you were looking for ideas on how to use the audios.
How to open the files so you can hear them will depend on what kind of computer and software you have. I’m only familiar with how to do it on my Mac. I just click on the file I want and it automatically opens in iTunes.
Did you figure out the download, Simplicity? I downloaded them recently. I clicked on the icon on the webpage and then waited for the download to happen – it took longer than I expected. Once it’s downloaded, you’ll see the file folder. Click on the folder to see the individual files. They are labeled by lesson number. Click on the file (lesson) you want, and your computer should open a media player to play the audio. It works well, once I was patient to wait for the download to finish. 🙂
We downloaded the files after we started the book, and we discovered we were pronouncing some words incorrectly, which gave us a chuckle. But I’m pleased that we could understand the words from our few lessons. This is fun! 🙂
