    Hi there, 🙂

Well, after 5 months of hemming and hawing, we finally made the plunge to actually using our cloth diapers instead of them just taking up space in our baby’s dresser.  It has actually been pretty nice.  It isn’t gross like I thought.  I use gloves to rinse them out like someone suggested before and poop diapers aren’t so bad.  My husband is horrified I use the outside hose sprayer to get off any “extras” on the diaper after I dump it in the toilet but hey, my diapers are still sparkling white and I feel I am fertilizing the bush that takes the said abuse anyway. 🙂

I have two questions though.  #1: Has anyone dealt with pocket diapers leaking at the crotch?  I read lots of reviews and felt safe in ordering a large pack (20) of Fuzzi Bunz one size pocket diapers.  I like them because of the colors, how soft they are, they are easy, and the snaps, but for some reason, only after like 1.5 to 2 hrs, they leak at the back of her leg.  She is not a heavy wetter so it isn’t that and I have tested the absorbency and the diapers are fine, but now that I go back and read reviews, it seems the only low ratings about leaking are on baby’s with big legs because maybe the crotch is too narrow for them.  And wouldn’t you know it, our daughter is on the “plus baby” size at 18 lbs at 5 months (90% for weight and 95% for height).  Who knew.. I have too many to start over with a new type of diaper so I was wondering if anyone has come across this and found a solution maybe?  Someone said they wound up just using their diaper as a cover with a prefold.  Any experience with this?

And Question #2: I haven’t used my diapers at night yet.  That is my last fear factor to overcome.  So, I was wonder what has worked best for you ladies at night?  It would have to last anywhere between 8 and 12 hours.  Do you double stuff your pocket diapers with hemp prefolds?  Use a cover with different prefolds?  Any wisdom you can share would be appreciated.  Thank you!

I can’t be a lot of help.  But I will answer with my experience.  1st I had to find a diaper that “fit” my baby.  For us it was Bumgenuis.  But this wasn’t till she was about 10lbs. (I have little ones)  They did not and still do not leak and she wears them at night.  I put the extra insert in there and she’s fine all night.  (she’s potty trained during the day).  When they were under that weight I use Thirstie cover and I don’t have a problem with them at night either with the prefolds.

I know it’s not good, but some diapers just fit one baby better than another.  Maybe you could try and get a couple like 3 differnt ones off ebay and try them for a couple days?  That’s all I have to offer as I haven’t used the ones you have.  Hope you figure out your solution quick.  I love clothe diapers and have saved TONS because of it.

And my dh will NOT do poopy diapers he’ll save them for me.  I on the other hand will just get it to the wash tub and so at it.  Wash my hands when I’m done (very well and with super hot water) but I don’t mind the ick.  It’s all good in the end!  Misty

We use the FuzziBunz, but the perfect size, not the one size.  We’ve not had leaking problems, except for maybe a couple of times when my son was itty bitty.  I’m sure you’ve probably tried this, but maybe it’s just a matter of messing with the snap adjustments.  As to nighttime, we’ve had great luck with the Baby Kicks hemp inserts…the regular insert closest to baby and the hemp one underneath.  In fact, there’s been once or twice the hemp insert has been forgotten, and we still have had no leaks.

It’s funny that you should ask this.  I just posted about Cutiepoops on FB and posted on a friends wall about Luke’s Drawers, which are the ones that I used 10 years ago when my youngest was in diapers.  The first diaper is one that a cousin of mine is using and she really likes them.

LD’s diapers did an amazing job of holding in leaks.  They are a OSFA diaper, BUT the placement of the snaps is such that you can get a great fit through all stages because there are (or were) so many snaps across the front and in two rows. These worked great with the nighttime/ heavy soaker that comes with it – or did when I bought them.

The plus side with at least the LD’s is that I used them all the way through potty training because they fit so nicely on even a toddler, the liner comes out for more of a “training pants” type fit, and my youngest could easily pull the snaps to use the potty. 🙂

K.. I think I gave you more info than you were actually wanting, but don’t be afraid to try them at night.  If you are still concerned about nighttime leaking, you can always get a wool cover to go over the diapers which helps tremendously.  I also suggest that you multi-layer the crib so that if you do have a leak, it isn’t a huge ordeal.  Just layer sheets on the bed with a large dry pad on top of each layer and you can strip off the damp sheet/ pad and be ready to go again in no time.

Go for it.  Put a hemp in with the regular.  It is super puffy, but they are just sleeping in it.  I had a skinny legged baby.  No leaks.  It may not matter since she will be laying down.  FuzziBunz with the added hemp was the only time I used FB.  I used another diaper during the day.
