  • There are SOOOO many choices when I was thumbing through Christianbook magazine. I thought it would be beneficial to know your favorites in these two important areas of life!

    I’m all ears! 🙂

For teens–I LOVE Jumping Ship by the Pearls, and Age of Opportunity by Ted Tripp; for mom stuff, you can’t go wrong IMO with Sally Clarkson’s fantastic books on motherhood.  Don’t know what’s in your catalog but those are favorites of mine.

I’ve been encouraged by Created to Be His Helpmeet and Passionate Housewives desperate for God.

I give a hearty second to any of Sally Clarkson’s books – they’ve all been very encouraging and beneficial to me.

Jen, I love Sally Clarkson as well, they were an inspiration for me, excellent books.

Well ladies, I have read most of Sally Clarkson. She’s great! I refer to her resources often. And I have read most of the others above as well, except the Ted Tripp one..I’ll check into it. Thanks!

So, any others? I saw an older book called Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges. It seems very spiritually insightful. Anyone here read it?

I haven’t read the Pursuit of Holiness, but I am reading another Jerry Bridges book right now called the Discipline of Grace which is very good (I’m a little over halfway – have been reading it section by section as part of my devotions). It is about our part vs. God’s part in spiritual growth and I’ve found it to be very insightful.

I have just finished reading “Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story”, and now I’ve assigned it to my 14yo to read.  It is a truly inspirational story of Dr. Ben Carson, a famous brain surgeon who was raised in inner-city Detroit.  His Christian faith is clear throughout his autobiography.

Now I am reading another autobiography.  It is called “Kisses from Katie” by Katie Davis.  She is an amazing young lady that God is using to do His work in Uganda.  Her story will astound you.  Some of the sadness she encounters in Uganda is a bit shocking, so I don’t know if I’d have a younger teen read it… I just believe in sheltering young people a bit from the saddest things in this world until they’re a bit older.  But her story is life-changing.  Such faith and trust in the Lord… praise God, there is nothing He can’t accomplish through people willing to simply follow Him.

Okay, so these aren’t specifically books for personal growth as a wife/mom or for parenting teens…. but you will be affected by them, I guarantee it.

(I got them both through my library… one through inter-library loan and the other I requested my library to purchase.  I have an insatiable appetite for books… I wouldn’t be able to afford all the books I read!)

This year with my 12 year old daughter we are reading through Beautiful Girlhood. It has a companion book you can use along with it.

Also, forgot to mention- Vision Forum has some great suggestions on books for wife/mother. I’m working on “Idols of The Heart: Learning to Long for God alone”.

I look forward to doing Beautiful Girlhood with my girls, as they get older. I didn’t know there was a companion book, thanks!

My son is 12, and hubby and I are wanting to do some sort of practical and biblical study that can relate to his upcoming stages of development into a godly young man. There’s seems to be a lot to choose from, and I was hoping some of you have experienced this and could give a great suggestion(s).

Csmamma, i have read lots of VF books, but not the one you mentioned. I’ll look into it, thanks! If you get a moment, maybe you could talk about what you’re learning from it, if you like. 🙂

Young Man, Be Strong and Thoughts For Young Men are great.  We are using them this year with our thirteen year old.
