This book is on the list at Borders as a free book choice after reading for the summer. The rest of the books on the list are terrible in my opinion but I haven’t read this one and was wondering if your family has. If so, is it twaddle? Moral?
I haven’t read this series (nor have my children), but if you’d like to read a review on a Christian website, Focus on the Family has one here. Their reviews of children’s books do not endorse nor condemn a book; they merely attempt to provide some basic information about it in order to equip Christian parents to make their own decisions about a book.
You are right about the book selections for Borders’ summer reading program. Last year, at least they were offering “The Witch of Blackbird Pond” and “Johnny Tremain.” This year, I do see a book by Kathryn Lasky (“Lone Wolf”), and I might further investigate it because we have read a couple of her historical books. Maybe this one is worthy of reading.
The Penderwicks was one of the books chosen for the mother/daughter book club of which we are members. We all LOVED the first one, and my girls loved the second one (I have not read it). I did not know there are two more – we’ll have to see if our library has them.
