Has anyone read The Lay of the Land by Dallas Lore Sharp for nature study? If so, did you do any activities along with it for nature study?

Sorry.  I’ve read it, haven’t talked any of the kids into it yet.  I liked it, both boys proclaimed it looked dull, and we rarely do nature study along with books.  Sorry I’m not more help!

And no, I don’t always let the kids decide whether or not to read something, but they are sort of science- and nature-intense and I do try to go with their preferences in those areas.  Outside of their official “courses” what they do science and nature wise is their own.  I have a kid currently into edible local plants and one who wants to make plasma out of grapes, oh, and the little guy who is currently obsessed with cicadas.  Smile

I’ve started reading it myself and it’s so creatively written! My daughter is giving it a try and we’ll see how she likes it. 🙂 I actually thought I wouldn’t do it at first being it’s our first year fully doing AO and it’s a pretty hefty schedule, but I thought it might be nice to just read it and enjoy it, not necessarily do any narrations. You know? But I wasn’t for sure if others out there actually did some nature study to coincide with it. So I thought if others had, I’d love to know what kinds of activities they did. 🙂
