Ludwig von Mises book, Socialism: An Economic and Socioligical Analysis?  I just ran across this today and looked through it.  I think it might be something that I can use for my high school student, pairing this with the Communist Manifesto and the reading of the Declaration and Constitution.  My student will also be completing an economics course at this time so this book seems like it might be a good one to have along side that study for comparisson reasons.

If you’ve read this, would this work for the above stated purpose for a student who is not unfamiliar with relatively meaty books?  Will this be much more information than she needs for this type of comparative reading? Did you find it overly dry?  The small snippets I looked at on Amazon seem to be interesting, but then again, I enjoy this kind of reading anyway, so may not be judging fairly.

    Thank you for your help,

I have read two of Mises’ longer works, although not this one.  I consider them very, very challenging.  I probably would not myself have gotten much out of it in high school.  It would, IMO, take a very long time and a very dedicated student.  It took me three years to make it through and feel like I truly understood Human Action.  I can recommend Leonard Read’s many excellent articles on Marxism as an easier alternative of very high quality; they are available at the Mises Foundation website.
