So we are going to do a harvest party and am in need of some ideas, old and new. We have the bobbing for apples, musical chairs, .. but then I’m lost for ideas.
It’s getting cold here in MN, but we still want to squeeze in a little fun. Thanks in advance for your ideas! Misty
Pin the nose on the pumpkin, bean bag toss through the pumpkin face, fish pond, bowling (ball and 2 liter bottles 1/3 filled with water – ask someone to save them), a craft, throw the bugs through the spider web, a duck pond (“prizes” for the number on the bottom of the duck) cupcake walk, prizes in a haystack, ring toss, etc.
We’ve also had parties at Church with things like trying to eat doughnuts tied to a string (no hands) We’ve also played games like the flour-penny game (pack a cup of flour tightly, unmold it on a tray, carefully place a penny on top, kids have to take a butter knife and slice away a little flour at a time, kid who makes it crumble and fall has to retrieve the penny with his mouth–no hands). I colored the flour orange for fun. We like to paint pumpkins–we choose not to do scary faces, but other things–like try to make one look like a real person that others can guess, etc. We’ve also done pumpkin seed spitting contests. 🙂 I’ll try to keep the thinker on–I know we’ve done more.
We enjoy a seasonal estimation jar/container/basket… how many candy corns or how many toy cars. It’s fun for the kids to write their guesses and name down then fold their entry for the box. Whomever is the closest wins the container of whatever it is. Face painting is always a hit or any kind of make-it-yourself treat. Have pre-made cupcakes or cookies set out, and have kids frost and decorate them. Quite messy but the kids love it!
Make a bunch (several large packages, more than one color) of gelatin, place a lot of gummy worms into a large tub or other container, spoon the gelatin (after it’s firm) on top of the gummy worms so they are well-hidden. Then, have the kids reach in to find a gummy worm. (Best to have some paper towels and/or disposable hand wipes nearby.)
