Has anyone used this? I have a 12 yo girl very interested in art right now…and I’m wondering about this for a plan. Looking at grade 8 for the modern era. Thanks.
I’ve gotten several of her plans. I don’t use the schedule so much as I love having the resources already located and figured out. I tend to use all different levels of her plans and so do whatever we like when we like – I guess I’m saying that we tweak it to fit us more personally like most things we use, lol. I enjoyed having the extra pictures and notebooking pages from her ancients package. That was helpful with my kiddos.
She has good things, though I haven’t looked at her level 8 for the modern era and so cannot comment specifically on that.
I got the Grade 1 She has 3 levels of activities for each book that we bought, and I liked all the ideas enough to buy the supplies for all three. Then I tried to use them all every week – one is just plain picture study, one is a art appreciation with creative art selection, and the other is art appreciation with picture study and coloring books. I finally made a master list in a format that was easier for me to follow and used that. So, really I did follow the plans but in my order. =)
The only frustration that I had was having to locate/print the pictures for the studies. Now, though, Barb has made plans for the SCM Picture Portfolios. Very cool!
The last one I got was the Ancient Art and The Orchestra. We are learning a lot with this one, and I love that it is full of picture study pages, notebooking pages, creative art pursuits, and so many other things for the Ancient Cultures. We are only starting the Ancient Greece pages, and will soon be doing the other music part.
The music part is also fantastic – she has chosen the music to feature all the different instruments that make up an orchestra and come up with activities to help re-inforce the children’s connections with the music and instruments.
I like studying the instruments of the orchestra because the composer study comes alive when you recognize the instrument making the beautiful sounds, and even cooler when you can pick it out of the music itself.
As I typed this out, I realized that we do pretty much follow the plans but I have already put them in the Organizer and marked them in my SCM Mod Guides, and that is why I thought we weren’t follwing the plans. I just don’t have to pull out the paper plans so much.
I will purchase more of these plans in the future, too, if that reassures you. 😉 HTH
I have used several of her mini-plans for artist and composer study and they are wonderful. I’ve looked at the curriculum and it looks great, but I haven’t wanted to tackle those just yet. Barbara is great at putting it all together, though.
