I really would love to save some room and have ease of all books at my fingertips by using e books but that also keeps me from being able to resell anything….. unless I printed it….which I won’t.

Just curious who else uses the ebooks instead of hard copies and which you prefer?

specifically the SCM books… guides and accompanying books

I usually prefer hardcopy unless I wouldn’t be able to get otherwise. I always like to turn pages in ‘real life’. : )

I am hard copy all the way. I’m very low-tech. Maybe I am missing out on a few things, but it feels good to hold a book!

I do a mix! For example I have ebook versions of:

    Planning Your CM Education

    Spelling Wisdom

    The Early Years Guide

I have had print versions of the Module 4 handbook and Hearing, Reading, Telling, and Writing.

I have a mix as well.  Anything I need multiple copies of, I prefer e-books.  I have some chapter e-books as well (and my personal reading books are e-books for the most part).  For teacher’s guides that I use daily (like history and science), I prefer hard copies.  I am totally loving the dictionary feature of my kindle.  It’s so easy to look up unfamiliar words, which is great for all those more difficult classics!

For specifically SCM, I went with e-books for: Spelling Wisdom, Print to Cursive Proverbs, Planning Your CM Education, Boy of the Pyramids, Ancient Egypt and her Neighbors

These books I decided to splurge on a printed copy: LDTR & Baby Rails, 106 Days of Creation, history module 1

With 4 DC, I’ve sold very few materials, so I’m not concerned about the resale value.  I figure by the time we are finished, so much of our things will have been replaced with a newer edition anyway.

I definitely prefer hard copies of reading books, however we do e-books for anything free on Kindle.  I like the e-book versions of things that I will want to print off for more than one child.  For example, the GOAL Bible study at SCM.

I always prefer real books over ebooks for anything the children will be reading or looking at while I read it to them. Ebooks are handy for items I will use for my own reference. That being said, I own the Yesterday’s Classics library in ebook form. If a book from that collection is used in school, I just read it from the e-version I already own rather than repurchasing it. I thiink it’s important to feel real books. Weird, I know. Also, the smell of real books is part of the interaction too. We don’t taste our books, though! 🙂

Definitely prefer the real thing over ebooks, but I do have some ebooks. I like paper in my hand, tho I have found my Kindle nice to take with me on vacation because I can put lots of things on it and not be actually having to carry much. I have purchased some things via ebooks from SCM – I bought the new “rails” book via ebook because I knew I’d be writing in it and figured I could print as I went. Also the bible studies I have purchased the ebooks since they are for more than one child.

I do a combination of the two, but I probably have more “real” books than ebooks.  If I get an ebook, then I have to get a binder, spend $$ on ink, etc., but then I get it NOW rather than having to wait for the mail and pay shipping.  I’d rather have ebooks if the printed book isn’t spiral, therefore, doesn’t lay open flat very well.  I also purchase ebooks if they are on sale and I have ink to spare, or ones that I’m okay with reading from my pc and have no plans to print at all.

In the end, it all depends on the book, what we need it for, when we need it and the costs associated with it.
