I posted before about my daughter only wanting to read Hank the Cow Dog and how she started reading Hans Brinker and found it boring. After talking with her she gave it another go and found that she was enjoying the story. I read a lot of reviews on this book before giving it to her and everyone seemed to like it and those who didn’t just said it went into too much detail about Holland.

She came to me very disturbed and told me there was a story in the book about a landlord who kills 3 boys, cuts them up and pickles their body parts. 😯

So, if anyone knows/remembers, is that it? Or is there more stuff like this in this book?

    Thanks! 🙂

That is quite a disgusting story the children’s mother tells them, but it does have a good ending, though quite strange (the evil man asks for forgiveness from Saint Nicholas and implores the saint to restore the boys back to life, which he does). I don’t think there are any other icky tales like that, at least none that come to mind. The story is so full of honor and selflessness that I would just overlook that one yucky story (but I’d definitely skip it in a read aloud with younger children). I hope your daughter can move on in the story and enjoy it and try to forget all about that one tiny, gross bit! 🙂
