I need to correct a previous post of mine, for historical accuracy. Sephardic Jews are only descendants from Spain and Portugal, the Spanish diaspora since 1492. Mizrahi Jews are those from the Middle east, northern Africa and the Caucasus region; Romaniot Jews are those from the former Byzantine Empire, the Greek speaking Jews.
They all have different food traditions and even language blends. In America, about 90% are Ashkanzi Jews, so that’s why the food traditions that we commonly associate with the Biblical Days are from the Ashkanaz community.
My husband’s family came from Eastern Europe.
Just wanted to clarify that.
