I’m trying to design an exam for my daughter’s handwriting. She started learning cursive this year and is working through Print to Cursive Proverbs. What should I use for an exam with this? Should I just take certain words she’s learned and have her write them? Or try to come up with a sentence for her to write using the words she’s learned?

Depending on how far your daughter has worked through Print to Cursive Proverbs, you could do one of the following:

Give 3–5 typed words from previous lessons for the student to transcribe in cursive. Repeat with different words if doing a second day of exams.

Give 2 typed phrases either from previous lessons or created from words learned for the student to transcribe in cursive for each day of exams for handwriting. Repeat with new phrases if doing a second day of exams.

Give the first half of a proverb for the student to transcribe in cursive; second day of exams, give the other half of the proverb; can be a proverb from a previous lesson or a new one now that the student has learned all letters
