I look at handicrafts also as “life skills”. So anything our sons will need to know how to do on their own for the amount of time they live on their own before they get married, and then things they will need to be a provider and protector of their home. My son is 2 but I think when we begin handicrafts initially they will be more fun hands on stuff and later in life will become more basic skills like plumbing, rewiring a light switch, painting walls, planting trees, driving a stick shift, changing oil.

This post gets me so excited to have a boy to teach these skills to! (My dad has 3 girls so I know how to do a lot of this)

Just sharing this project that was a big hit for my 7YO son:

    http://www.thatartistwoman.org/2010/03/spring-weaving-project.html

He loved the weaving, and he liked designing it with his bird of choice (in his case, Scarlet Tanager). He put in a light blue egg, since the Scarlet Tanager has blue eggs. It was a perfect combination of a handicraft and nature study.

He gave it to his grandmother for Easter. It was a big hit.
