I am looking for suggestions for handicrafts for an almost 14 yr. old boy. My son enjoys drawing, legos, skateboarding, and anything to do with technology. I don’t want just busy work though. I want something that will actually be useful for him or the family. He just needs some projects to be involved in and take him away from computer, phone, and etc.
Doug, that magazine looks AWESOME. I am going to get a gift subscription for my friend who has 4 boys. Her oldest at 13, is always building something. He just purchased “uranium marbles” off of ebay and I am not sure of his plans for those, but this magazine, well, it’s perfect for him! Thanks for sharing.
I, too, was going to suggest MAKE Magazine. My 15yo ds enjoys it and thrives off the challenging. The project ideas really put his hands to work.
Also, if your ds likes Lego, engineering and technology, he might enjoy Lego NXT Robotics – there is the programming of the robot involved on the computer but lots of hands on building as well.
Age level depends on the child’s interests and abilities. The magazine has very easy projects, some made just for kids, and some for greater skill levels. It’s a good fit for teens but could also be great for 10 and up to read and do projects with an adult.
