My niece loves crafts.  I am looking for an idea for a useful, beautiful craft that we could supply materials for but could be done pretty much independently.  Her mom isn’t likely to be involved, but I would love for her to have something useful to make instead of just stickers, beads, glue, etc.  I’m having a hard time thinking of ideas as she would need to be able to do it independently.  Any thoughts?

A knitting loom might be an option. My 1st grader uses one, although she does need help with it I think some children might be able to manage it themselves once someone helped them get started. Would you be able to spend some time with her and get her started?

You might find another idea on my pinterest board for handicrafts.

Rainbow Loom is fun for this age.  She will need a little help starting out, but once she gets the hang of it she should be okay.  She may even be able to get some friends to help her with it since it was all the rage last year.

Finger knitting. there are lots of videos on You Tube to teach how and then she’s on her own.

A potholder loom is a great one, and the potholders make great gifts. My son, 8, has been making them for years, and loves to give sets to people.
