That is a wondrful link. Thank you so much for sharing.
Being new to habit training, I am curious what you all might think of her timing differeing from what I’ve seen here. She does a different habit each month, whereas, here, I have seen most other people referencing one a term? If it’s one a month, you can put it on a pretty l ittle chart; but will it be too rushed?
How often to you switch a habit? (once a term> every month? one a year?) What is the goal per year? Do you do it during the summer? In JUST starting habit training, is there a great way to LAUNCH the idea so they get excited/on board?
Does anyone keep a reward chart, or earn X for encouraging habit training, or you just do it straigh up, (or else)? LOL
I am so excited to pull all these resources together and get started!
Why do I feel like I ask so many questions??! I am so sorry. I just love it here!
We work on something until we have it. If it’s a month, fine. If it’s 3 months, that’s ok, too. This is a life we’re building and it takes time. I think setting goals for what the priorities are is a good idea, but I wouldn’t keep a strict time table. We are always building habits, it’s simply up to us parents too help shape them for good. Habit training is part of our life and part of family, not so much just a school subject. I like the stories, copywork and game ideas like in LDTRC and on that blog, but honestly it’s consistency that it boils down to.
Amen to the above! I am finding at our house, that it’s more about what helps to keep Mom on board than anything else. So, if that’s a plan with some activity every day, or a chart, or writing the habit/goal on the wall/chalkboard…mine is just about all of the above!! b/c Mom’s attention span is the WORST. In the beginning, I have been asking the kids (and myself) every morning, “What habit are we working on?”
Thanks for sharing, Christie! Marking another favorite to go back to when I plan some more 😉
