Do any of you know of a good program for teaching guitar?  My DD8 has been begging for a guitar for over a year now and my Dad just found her a good youth size guitar at a yard sale.  My Dad plays, but will be about 3 hours away from us, my husband plays a little but not enough to well.  I don’t play at all, though I have a guitar and figure we will learn together.  I thought one with a DVD might be good so we can see the “teacher” doing it and hear how it is supposed to sound.  But, I am open to any suggestions.  I might be able to find a “live” teacher but am unsure.  We will be moving in about 8 weeks and I’m not 100% sure where.  We probably won’t have the guitar until we move ’cause I don’t think we will be seeing my parents before that.

    Thanks

Well it is a little pricy ($149), but “Learn and Master Guitar” is probably very good. I have the “Learn and Master Painting” that I got myself with a gift certificate. I love it! I am learning so much! I am considering the guitar or piano version also. When you consider the price of lessons, every week, it is not bad. It might be a little too much for an 8 yr. old, but check it out.

ETA:I just went to Amazon and it is cheaper there. http://www.amazon.com/Gibsons-Learn-Master-Guitar-Steve/dp/1450721494/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329012705&sr=8-1

Well, my husband is an accomplished acoustic guitar player, but I guess I can’t offer him up as an option for you…sorry. 😉

I would suggest finding someone in your church who might be willing to give lessons. If they’re experienced enough, it might be a good arrangement. Something I’m noticing more and more is that people who would normally charge money for things are becoming willing to trade time, goods, or services if you ask. For example, I am seeing a nutritionist who was in need of a website. My husband is proficient in building websites, so she agreed to treat our family in exchange for my hubby building her website. It’s an even exchange of time and services. You may be able to find a deal like that with someone. Don’t discount anything!

A home-cooked meal or some produce from your garden for a once weekly guitar lesson. Or if you have computer skills, younger be able to offer those in exchange for lessons. All I’m trying to say is don’t not give your dd an opportunity because of cost. In today’s economy, people are more understanding than ever about finances. At least that’s been our experience!

Hope you find something that works!
