We have only been going for a few weeks now, but already the spiral bound guides (language, spelling, history) are showing signs of wear. I especially would like to reuse the Spelling Wisdom and history guides in future years. Has anyone ever re-bound the guides or re-enforced them in some way to enhance the durability?
I have this pRobles with my spelling wisdom book… The cover fell off towards the end of last year and I’m not sure how to rebind it to make it work for this next year…. So in also looking for solutions…
I covered our history teacher guides with contact paper and then had them spiral bound. That works great for those.
As for the books that come already spiral bound, the only thing I can think of is to have a copy shop make a photocopy on heavy cardstock, have it laminated, and re-bound (spiral).
I’ve known people who have had a copy shop cut off the spiral binding, drill the holes to make it 3-hole punched, and then put it in a binder of appropriate size.
They can also put a clear, durable plastic cover on the front and back. I did that with a copy of A Charlotte Mason Companion I found online for $1 because I wanted to be able to lay it flat and refer to it often.
Perhaps they could remove the spiral, add the plastic sheets and replace with a new spiral?
I had the same problem with Spelling Wisdom and Jack’s Insect’s Narration Notebook (which was used by my 11yo for only last year so not that big of a deal). Frustrating abut the SW because I would like to use those for years with the rest of the kids!
I just recently took three of my school books to a copy shop and had the ripped cover pulled off and put plastic covers on the front and back. I had a large book that had pages ripping out so I had it recut and coiled and the plastic covers put on. It cost about $6.50 to fix a $100.00 TM (MFW). I have always had this problem with the TQ guides, also. I’ve decided to either buy ebooks and bind them with the plastic covers or just add the plastic covers to everything I buy. I’m a little particular about my books!?
