Can someone please help me understand the differences between the Nothing New Press publication of Guerber’s Story of the Great Republic, or any of the titles really, versus Memoria’s?
Has Memoria reprinted more than the two American books? That’s all I knew about. The price is attractive, considering that it is in one volume there. I have and love the Nothing New Press versions. I’ve always liked them–I like the artwork, I love the timelines and things in the back that make my life so easy. But I may be partial because that’s what I’ve always had–found them years ago and have been diligently sticking up for them ever since!
I only see the Thirteen Colonies and The Story of the Great Republic at Memoria, but on RR it looks comb bound? I only need The Story of the Great Republic, and I didn’t know about the timelines and whatnots in the back, so I may stick with Miller’s. Thank you!
Related…I’m also curious how different the Miller revisions are to the original Guerber series that is available as part of the Yesterday’s Classics collection? I think I read before that she added a significant amount of material to the Ancient World one so that’s worth buying the updated edition, but I can’t remember how much she changed the others? Curious because I already have the YC kindle collection and would prefer to use what I have and not buy something new unless there is a really good reason to do so. =)
I have the Memoria Press edition of this book. It combines both the Thirteen Colonies and The Great Replublic into one. Memoria Press releases all books in “beta form” first. All Beta books have a comb binding. However, the final printing of this particular book is out now and is printed with a regular book binding. I have used Memoria Press products for years. They are of great quality and you cannot beat their customer service.
Jen ~ I’m also curious what the revisions entail, as in what did Ms Miller add to the Story of the Ancient World? I only see the first three books at YC, and not The Story of the Great Republic. Darn. 🙂
I think that the original Guerber version for the Ancient time period is called
The Story of the Chosen People and mostly only relates the Biblical events – I think in her revision, Ms Miller added new material about the other ancient civilizations. I haven’t actually seen the Miller revisions, I just vaguely remember there being a thread about it before which I can’t find now. Hoping that perhaps whoever had commented on these before might be willing to chime in again. 😉
And yes, I noticed too that the 13 Colonies and Great Republic aren’t part of my YC Kindle collection – which is sad since I think that’s the time period we’re going to do next year….so I hear ya!
Also I searched a little harder and found the post that I had remembered reading comparing the original and Miller versions of the Guerber books, if it helps anyone else….
