The Ultimate Gift was mentioned. Just so you know, one woman is a bit scantily dressed in one scene when her son shows up at the door.

I also like pluggedinomline for a Christian review.

Hatchie is also good. It has one scene that you know is a bedroom scene between husband and wife, but you don’t see anything other than some kissing. Te rest is implied.

I so appreciate this question, as we have a very hard time finding things without language and sensuality as well.  Thanks for starting it!

Some stuff that’s on Netflix right now that we have watched:

The whole Sherlock Holmes series with Jeremy Brett as Holmes (not the new PBS one)  There is one episode that shows a nude model from behind.  As far as I can remember, that is the only instance.   It is the one about the Mona Lisa being stolen.

    The Shunning

the whole series of Man, Woman, Wild – we LOVED this show, love the relationship between this real life husband and wife – even our kids watched this one

    Driving Miss Daisy

    Hachi

    Main Street

The Decoy Bride (I remember one instance of language)

Almost all of the older Poirot and Miss Marples are fine – the newer ones are coarse and I can’t stand them

    Bleak House

    North and South

Daniel Deronda – been a while since I watched this one, but I don’t remember anything bad

    Jane Eyre

Are you familiar with the ClearPlay dvd player?  You can program it to remove/skip over anything inappropriate including bedroom scenes, violence, and language.  We recently purchased ours for about $100.

Has anyone seen “We Bought a Zoo”? We’re doing a road trip and visiting family and I’m thinking maybe this will be a good rental once we get to the cousin’s house. I’d love anyone’s input. Thanks!!

Jenni, I have never watched ‘We Bought A Zoo’. A friend bought it and watched it with her husband to preview it, and she was disappointed to find there was language in it. It was a deal breaker for that family, they would not put it on for the kids. She did say the storyline was good. Her kids were about 10, 8, 6 and 3 at the time.

The review at http://www.movieguide.org should be of more help

The Princess Bride, Oceans 11/12/13 (I don’t remember any sexuality, but probably down cussing), The Italian Job, Oklahoma!, Tremors (terrible low budget but just so bad they are good) The Music Man, Lord of the Rings, Avengers, National Treasure, Westside Story (not sure how sexual this is but it was made in the 60’s) Harry Potter (all 8 movies)

We typically avoid sex, and language. I don’t mind blood/ fighting if it isn’t rediculous. We love musicals, our only R rated movie we own is Sweeny Todd (lots of blood)but the blood is so over the top and fake, and the Music is sooo good!

This is a good looking list ladies! I’m going to write it down

I was reading this without realizing that it was an old thread, and was wondering why no one mentioned Clear Play.  Then I saw that I mentioned Clear Play!!  So….  I will plug it again.  It is wonderful, totally removes offensive language, sexual content, violence –anything you decide to program it for.  Typically, we don’t mind a bit of violence, but definitely remove language and especially “religious” profanities.  Sometimes that means that even though God’s name is used in an appropriate way, it is still blocked because we set that filter on high.  Other filters, such as violence we allow a lower filtering level.

jeaninpa, I was just catching up on this thread and immediately took note of your mention of Clear Play. This sounds like a marvelous invention! I’m sure it would still make sense to choose movies carefully for theme, maturity, etc. but certainly Clear Play must help greatly.

Have you ever found you’ve gotten lost in the plot when some of the scenes are eliminated? ((does it just turn to black screen, where you sit and wait? Or does it skip several minutes at a time?) Curious!

Typically, we still try to use discretion and don’t choose movies where large chunks would need to be eliminated.  With the ClearPlay, you barely notice the skips.  There is a split second of freezing and then it just moves on, sometimes we don’t even realize anything was skipped.  The language is just muted, so we often don’t notice that either.  Make sure you don’t use subtitles though, because even though the sound is muted, the subtitles go on!!

As an example, we recently watched Les Mis.  There are two parts in that movie with quite a bit of sexual content.  Using the ClearPlay on that made those scenes quite choppy and even eliminated most of them.

We’ve started using the site Kidsinmind for movie reviews.  They are more in-depth than Plugged-In, I’ve found.

Second-Hand Lions and RV are good ones, too. I’ll post again if I think of more! You’ve been given some terrific ideas! I’ll be looking into some of these, too! 🙂

We bought a Zoo, well we watched it with our kids (all 7) and it was tettering the whole time on to keep it on or turn it off.  We did watch it the story line was good and we never have watched it again and no one seemed to mind.

RV is my families favorite movie of all time I do believe.  My dh and I don’t watch much TV without the kids so … what is an adult movie?  LOL  Who has time???
