If you teach all of grammar in a year using something like Get Smart Grammar, what do you use to teach things like correct usage of irregular verbs, synonyms, antonyms, heteronyms, homonyms, using a dictionary, etc that are not strictly grammar but usually covered in grammar programs?

I’m at this point now with dd14. Get Smart wins for grammar proper in my book. Mechanics, usage, and punctuation are not covered, though.  I used Jr. Analytical Grammar Mechanics last year and could use season 3 of AG since I own it, but I would prefer something more like Get Smart.  Jr. AG Mech and AG season 3 both have you correcting errors which isn’t very CM, but has worked for us.  I am simply not good at pointing it out in literature or dictation exercises.

Here’s good link to explain differences in grammar, punctuation, and mechanics. http://katherinewikoff.com/2012/10/18/whats-the-difference-between-grammar-punctuation-and-mechanics/

My short list of options for dd14 for 9th grade:

    • Easy Grammar Ultimate Series Grade 9 or 10 – spread out over 2 years
    • Editor in Chief – high school book
    • Analytical Grammar season 3
    • analytical Grammar high school reinforcement American Authors

None of these are exactly what I want, but may be fine when combined with whatever we do for literature/writing and editing.
