I’m sure there’s an obvious answer, but just wondering what others do:) I’ve graded Math in the past but just lesson by lesson so they know what % they received (if that since I always make them re-do errors). I’ve never kept any official grades. Dd is in 8th and starting MUS Algebra and I’d like to give her a grade for the course this year. We likely won’t use it on h.s. transcripts, but I’d like her to get used to being graded a bit more officially.
Anyway, do you grade every lesson and every test and just average together for a unit grade for that particular unit? Weigh tests more than worksheets? Just wondering if there is a common way to do this or if it really matters:) Thanks! Gina
I fill out the grade record sheets for MUS. For the worksheets, they get a check mark when it’s completed. For tests, I write down an average. My oldest is only in 6th though…I’m not sure how we’ll handle this in high school.
My oldest is in fifth so I’m only taking records for me to get used to doing it for later when it’s needed. I, also, just put a grade on the tests and then average them. Middle and High School may be different, I’m not sure yet.
My daughter is in 4th grade, and I know we don’t have to do grades – but I need to be able to see how she’s doing overall. Our math curriculum (CLE) tells us to grade the quizzes and the tests. The tests are worth double what the quizzes are. So, it’s Q+T+T= grade/300 (each Q and each T are worth 100 points).
Thanks, ladies…tha’t’s helpful! That’s my inkling of what the better way would be…seems silly to mess w/the worksheets while they’re learning concepts.
Bookworm…I’d also like to know how you weight your tests. Are you saying the unit tests are given more weight? How do you figure that in? Thanks again!!! Blessings, Gina
